Meet St. Dymphna: Patron Saint of Mental Health, Anxiety, and Depression
St. Dymphna, a 7th-century Irish princess and virgin martyr, is a powerful intercessor for those struggling with mental health challenges. Born to a pagan father and a Christian mother, she was raised in the faith and dedicated her life to Christ at a young age.
After the tragic loss of her mother, St. Dymphna fled her homeland to escape her father’s harmful intentions, ultimately giving her life in defense of her purity and faith.
Today, St. Dymphna is honored as the patron saint of mental health, anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. Her courage, compassion, and unwavering trust in God make her a beacon of hope for all who suffer in mind or spirit. Her feast day, celebrated on May 15th, invites us to turn to her for comfort, healing, and peace.
